Spent Good Friday at JB together with the JC kaki-s. Even though we spent a 'good' amount of time clearing the customs on both sides, it was good time spent together even as we were queuing. Guys were shopping for cheap toiletries, PS was trying to look for shoes and I went stocking up cheaper cosmetics. We sang, went for massage and had a great dinner.
Instead of the typical seafood feast that people would normally go for, we went for healthy herbal food. Though we made that decision by accident because Beng had a stomach upset, it was an excellent mistake after all. The whole concept of the restaurant, in our opinion, was fantastic.
Customers get to choose what kind of food they want to eat and at the same time, know the effects of the various herbal dishes. We came to a discussion over the the gender-fication and gender-ization of food. Discussed about how and why certain food have effects that are meant for male/female and would have negative effects when consumed by the other, and how food are named/presented to target male/female.
It was indeed a very nourishing meal literally: physical consumption and mental/intellectual enrichment. We eventually managed to sway our upcoming masters student (RA) to potentially change his thesis topic from religion to food and gender. We kinda concluded that it would be good if this topic can materialize as his thesis topic because we see more commercial value in this topic.
