The power of Touch

my past relationship gave me a lot of comfort in times of sadness and brought me through a lot of moments of trouble. back then, i thought that what made me felt better to survive the sadness or gave me the courage to face things was the love we had, and that was comforting.

shawn was telling me about his thesis some time back when i asked him about what he was working on. at that point of time, i merely felt that the topic was interesting and that was just it.

3 days ago, childhood friend invited me to his house for a meal on the 2nd day of LNY. i didnt turn up for the meal but i went to his house much later for a chat. it eventually developed into a 6-hour long talk that lasted into the early hours of the next morning. inevitably, the talk included topics that were the most heart wrenching and eventually led me to my tears.

at critical moments, childhood friend gave me the comfort of touch which made me felt overwhelming, and definitely much better. it was then that i realized the wonderful therapeutic power of touch when it is used in the context of an empathic interaction.

in another instance, i was watching a show featuring one of the character who was trying to convince the evil person to reveal the location of the victim. the bad guy was so insistent on taking revenge until the character touched her to show empathy towards her past experience. and of course, it eventually lead to her being soften down and reveal the location of the victim.

i just find it amazing how touch can bring so much comfort to people in distress or pain, and how therapeutic touch can be to convey empathy towards one's situation.

The sudden surge in interest on this topic shall bring on some motivation to find out more about it. Perhaps it can be useful in my field of work :)
